Building bigWebApps Community
Jason Moore

If you didn’t read the 37signals chat:

From Threadless (another peer to peer COOL site for your list, Jon) founder on his feelings for building a successful community:

“You definitely need to be part of the community, you also need to take into consideration the fact you as the owner are still only 1 member out of the thousands and thousands in a community, and the opinions of all the others are just as valid as yours.  And if you listen to your community they’re going to respect you, and if they see the site evolve because of their suggestions they’re going to have that feeling of ownership”

Back to me:

POW!  That’s what I am talking about.  If we are going to build a successful community, the end goal can’t be profits.  The goal must be to have really excited community members who feel a sense of ownership.  We can only do that by checking egos at the door and empowering our community members to be as important (or more important) as we are.

This will take time, but I think we have a decent set of clients who are ready for us to do this based on our history with them.
